Six stages, and the second one is where the money is
01Constraints first
Before anything is designed we tell you what the site will not allow and what the survey calendar will not permit. This is the cheapest week of the project and the one most often skipped.
02Baseline
Survey, monitor and model. Measured, not assumed, and long enough to be defensible — five days of background noise, a tested infiltration rate, our own diffusion tubes where local data will not do.
03Design input
The point at which the work is worth something: the metric run on three layouts, the basin moved, the outfall relocated, the piling swapped for ballast.
04Submission
Chapters with named owners and a dependency map. Pre-application engagement with the authority and the statutory consultees before anything is lodged.
05Determination
We answer the consultation responses, attend the committee if it helps, and discharge the conditions. Thirty-one of thirty-four verification reports accepted first time.
06Afterwards
Monitoring during commissioning, aftercare plans, and finding out whether the prediction held. A consultancy that never checks is a consultancy that never improves.
Fees
What this costs, roughly
We quote fixed fees on defined scopes and we publish indicative ranges, because a consultancy that will not put a number near a website is a consultancy whose first meeting is a sales meeting.
A preliminary ecological appraisal on a site under two hectares: £1,400 to £2,600. A protected species survey package with three bat activity visits: £4,800 to £9,500 depending on access points. A biodiversity net gain assessment with metric runs on three layout options: £3,200 to £6,000. A BS 4142 assessment with a five-day baseline survey: £3,400 to £5,800. A Phase 1 desk study: £1,100 to £1,900. A flood risk assessment on a Zone 2 site: £2,200 to £4,000; in Zone 3 with hydraulic modelling, £7,000 to £24,000.
Environmental statement coordination is quoted per scheme and has ranged from £42,000 to £310,000 across the fourteen we have run. The variance is chapters, not rates.
Two things we do not charge for: the first conversation, and telling you a survey season has closed.
